सुरापानमत्तां सरोजस्थितां श्रीं
Radiant and glorious, she is enraptured by divine wine and seated upon a lotus.
भजे वल्लकीं वादयन्तीं मतङ्गीम्
I worship Matangi as she plays upon her veena (lute).
Verse 3
माणिक्याभरणान्वितां स्मितमुखीं नीलोत्पलाभां वरां
She wears ruby ornaments, her face gently smiling, her complexion like a blue lotus, supremely beautiful.
रम्यालक्तक लिप्तपादकमलां नेत्रत्रयोल्लासिनीम्
Her lotus feet are painted with lovely red lac dye, and her three eyes shine with radiance.
वीणावादनतत्परां सुरनुतां कीरच्छदश्यामलां
Ever engaged in playing the veena, praised by the gods, dark as the wings of a parrot.
मातङ्गीं शशिशेखरामनुभजे ताम्बूलपूर्णाननाम्
I worship Matangi, crowned with the crescent moon, her mouth full with betel leaf (tambula).

श्यामाङ्गीं शशिशेखरां त्रिनयनां वेदैः करैर्बिभ्रतीं
Dark-limbed, moon-crowned, three-eyed, holding the Vedas in her hands.
पाशं खेटमथाङ्कुशं दृढमसिं नाशाय भक्तद्विषाम्
She firmly holds a noose, shield, goad, and sword — to destroy the enemies of her devotees.
रत्नालङ्करणप्रभोज्वलतनुं भास्वत्किरीटां शुभां
Her body blazes with the brilliance of jeweled ornaments, and her crown shines auspiciously.
मातङ्गीं मनसा स्मरामि सदयां सर्वार्थसिद्धिप्रदाम्

देवीं षोडशवार्षिकीं शवगतां माध्वीरसाघूर्णितां
The goddess, eternally sixteen years of age, seated upon a corpse, swaying in intoxication from divine nectar-wine.
श्यामाङ्गीमरुणाम्बरां पृथुकुचां गुञ्जावलीशोभिताम्
Dark-limbed, clothed in reddish garments, full-bosomed, adorned with strings of gunja (rosary) beads.
हस्ताभ्यां दधतीं कपालममलं तीक्ष्णां तथा कर्त्रिकां
In her hands she holds a pure skull-bowl and a sharp curved knife (kartrika).
ध्यायेन्मानसपङ्कजे भगवतीमुच्छिष्टचाण्डालिनीम्
