Golu Devta is one of the most revered folk deities of the Kumaon region
in Uttarakhand, worshipped as Nyay Devta — the God of Justice. Local
legend traces him to the Katyuri and Chand dynasties, remembered as a
prince known for his fairness who, after his death, continued to be
invoked as a divine judge.

His most famous shrine, Chitai Temple near Almora, holds a tradition
found almost nowhere else in Hindu worship: devotees write their
grievances on paper and hang them at the temple, believing Golu Devta
reads every petition himself. Once justice is served, they return with
a bell as thanks — a custom that has covered the temple in thousands of
them.

This film traces his story and the living tradition that surrounds him,
grounded in the oral history and legends of the Kumaon hills.
