Kurma — the Tortoise Avatar
Kurma, the second avatar of Vishnu, took the form of a giant tortoise to support Mount Mandara on his back during the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the cosmic ocean by gods and demons in search of amrit, the nectar of immortality.
